Your pic on the BBC?
Ian Ferguson, weather presenter on BBC West, has
emailed us to say how impressed he is with the quality of photos
club members have taken, and with a request --
"I'm always keen to
use good aerial photos in my TV weather bulletins here across BBC West
(covering Somerset, north Dorset, Bristol, Bath, Glos and Wilts) -
especially photos showing the geography / topography of our region (I
can’t use any of Devon, but can of Somerset, Somerset/Dorset border
area, and Exmoor and environs) and any which include the horizon and
associated weather conditions / clouds. I always include an
on-screen credit to the photographer for any photos submitted - but we
ask to use the images free of charge, solely for our TV weather
broadcasts made here at the BBC Bristol studios. I also
regularly use aviation photos - nice shots of arcraft, with weather as
a backdrop - not least as I'm mad on aircraft!
Anyone
wishing to send images for consideration can email them directly to me
at the address ian.fergusson (at) bbc.co.uk making sure to note (1) the
name of the photographer (2) a concise description / naming of the
location shown in the image and (3) a disclaimer stating that the
photographer is happy for the photo to be used as a backdrop on BBC
weather bulletins.
I
have to crop photos to 16:9 widescreen format, so it's important that
photographers take the shots with this composition in mind.
Thus, I can't use any photos shot as portrait format and for landscape
format images, inevitably some of the top and lower portions of the
photo will need cropping…… so, best to keep the points of interest
centrally in the photo.
Many
thanks for any help."
